THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) donated P5 million in humanitarian aid to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to support the group’s ambulance services.

A statement by the PRC cited its Chairman and Sen. Richard J. Gordon expressing gratitude to BSP Governor Benjamin E. Diokno “for helping the Red Cross in saving more individuals in times of emergencies.”

“Thank you for always trusting the PRC,” Gordon was quoted in the statement as saying. “We always make sure that the money and donations we humbly receive will reach the most vulnerable.” The group said the BSP’s humanitarian contribution is primarily for the operational expenses of its ambulance services, which provides free transport for individuals affected by disasters and emergencies.

This year alone, the PRC has catered to 46,173 individuals through its ambulance service program.

For 14 years, the PRC and BSP have been collaborating to address the pressing needs of the most vulnerable communities, the PRC statement said.

Last year, the BSP, under the leadership of then-Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr., contributed P2 million for the PRC’s program that shoulders the blood processing fee of qualified indigent patients.

The PRC and the BSP also hold joint mass blood donation annually.
