424 SCHOLARS POSIBLENG MAWALAN NG SCHOLARSHIP DAHIL SA ‘PASS ALL’ POLICY: CHED
Nagbabala ang Commission on Higher Education na posibleng mawalan ng scholarship ang 424 scholars dahil sa “mass promotion” o ang pagbibigay ng automatic passing marks sa gitna ng pandemya.
Nanawagan si CHED chairman Prospero De Vera III sa 17 higher education institutions (HEIs) na magbigay ng numerical grades sa mga estudyante para maging basehan para malaman kung qualified sila na makatanggap ng financial assistance galing sa gobyerno.
“The problem was caused by HEIs who did a ‘pass all’ policy in their 2nd semester. I made it very clear in CHED announcements that while the grading system of HEIs are determined and exercised by individual HEIs in the exercise of their academic freedom, any decision to adopt a ‘pass all’ policy must ensure that the interests of individual students are not compromised,” pahayag ni De Vera.
Sinabi din ni De Vera nitong buwan ng Hunyo pa lang ay nagbabala na ang CHED sa mga HEIs na maapektuhan ng naturang policy ang mga estudyante na may merit scholarship at ang nangangailangan ng numeric grades.
Ang nasabing mga estudyante ang beneficiaries ng CHED Merit Scholarship Program (CMSP), na ang education grant ay nakabase sa scholarship performance o ang grade ng mga aplikante sa priority degree programs ng gobyerno.
Samantala, ayon sa CHED required ang mga CMSP scholars na mag-maintain ng general weighted average (GWA) na at least 85 percent kapag full scholar o 80 percent naman kapag half scholar ito.
“If the HEIs will not give them numeric grades, what will be the basis to determine if the students will get financial assistance from the government?” ani De Vera.
Ang 17 HEIs na may CHED merit scholars at grantees na nag-adopt ng “pass all” policy ay ang mga sumusunod:

• Bataan Heroes Memorial College
• De La Salle University – Dasmariñas
• STI College Rosario
• University of the Philippines Los Baños
• Cavite State University
• Mary Help of Christians College-Salesians Sisters Inc.
• Ateneo de Naga University
• Partido College
• Pili Capital College, Inc.
• Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology
• University of the Philippines-Visayas
• Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology
• Mindanao State University- Naawan
• Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Sta. Mesa, Manila
• University of Baguio
• Mindanao State University – Marawi
