France magpapahiram ng halagang P14 bilyon sa Pilipinas para makatulong sa disaster risk reduction

Nangako ang France na magpapahiram sa Pilipinas ng P14 bilyon, upang masuportahan at lalo pang mapabuti ng bansa ang disaster risk reduction efforts sa lokal na level, batay sa Department of Finance (DOF).

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng DOF na nilagdaan nito ang €250-milyon policy-based loan sa Agence Française de Développement (AFD), kung saan ang pondo dito ay naglalayong tulungan ang disaster risk management capabilities ng mga lokal government.

“The Disaster Risk Reduction Enhancement at the Local Level Programme seeks to support LGUs in a sustainable trajectory, as well as build the resilience of local economies and communities,” sabi ng DOF batay sa ulat ng GMA.

Dagdag pa ng department, makakatulong ang pondo sa pagsuporta sa Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) upang ma-decentralize ang mandate at services para sa disaster risk reduction at climate change management sa mga LGUs.

“It will not only help build the capacity of the LGUs but also support ongoing reform programs throughout the country, taking into account the demands of the ‘new normal’ that seeks to address public health emergency concerns, as demonstrated by the COVID-19 experience,” sabi ng DOF.

Ang AFD ay isang French public financial agency na nagpopondo at sumusuporta sa development, climate at sustainability programs sa ibang bansa, kung saan matagal nang mag-partners ito ng DILG.

Ang Pilipinas ay isa sa mga bansa na madalas tamaan ng mga natural calamaties dulot ng climate change.
