Sen. Sonny Angara, itinalaga ni PBBM na bagong DepEd secretary

Itinalaga ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. si Sen. Sonny Angara bilang bagong kalihim ng Department of Education.

Inanunsyo ito ng pangulo sa 17th Cabinet Meeting sa Malacañang. Aniya, tinanggap na ni Angara ang posisyon.

“Sonny has agreed to take on the brief of the Department of Education,” pahayag ni PBBM.

Papalitan ni Angara si Vice President Sara Duterte, na nagbitiw bilang Education Secretary noong Hunyo 19, 2024.

Magiging epektibo ang resignation ni Duterte July 19, 2024.

Nagtapos si Angara sa Master of Laws sa Harvard University, Bachelor of Laws sa University of the Philippines, Bachelor of Science in Economics sa London School of Economics.

Kabilang sa kanyang mga legislative work ay ang Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act at ang Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (K-12).

Nakatanggap rin ang senador ng suporta mula sa mga educational organizations at endorsement mula sa Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA) at Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU).

Binigyang-diin ni Pangulong Marcos ang critical role ng DepEd at ang pangangailangan para sa isang pinunong may kakayahang pangasiwaan ang malawak na operasyon nito.

“DepEd is arguably the most important department given the crucial role of education,” saad ni President Marcos.

“We have many excellent candidates,” dagdag pa ng pangulo.

Nagpahayag naman ng pasasalamat ang gobyerno kay Vice President Duterte sa kanyang serbisyo.
